2062 USS Lexington AC by Unlimitedguy 2062 USS Lexington AC by Unlimitedguy
53 years from now, the world is celebrating the end of the six year long WWIII. The constant melting of the ice sheets gave way to sea combat like never before imagined. Nations have an arms race for battleships for the fight for ice caps witch were up for grabs after the UN decided to start a settlement in Antarctica in 2056. Many southern nations protested on NATO's involvement of lands that were out of their legal reach. This stirred a conflict that took place above 5 miles of water. Ships had to serve as mobile bases as supplies were hard to reach to combat zones. This called for faster, stronger and more stealthy ships. Hundreds of vessels were sunk in the battle until treaties were arranged.

The war is over, the United states' relationship with the enemy alliances is still at an unease. To be prepared for any other conflicts of the same sort, the Navy goes to the drawing board and comes up with this 8.9 Billion dollar baby. It is a multipurpose ship, mostly an aircraft carrier that can accomplish 100 knots. It also has an advances system of elevators and hangers that house the most advanced drones under deck. One take off, and one landing runway allow quick deployment. The ship accomplishes such high speed because of a nuclear power core under the landing runway. The ship will serve for another 30 years patrolling the American colonies near Antarctica.

this is very cool but sadly would work as an aircraft carrier not so much because of the runway but because it sits WAY to high in the water meaning it would have awful body roll and become a very dangerous place to land planes on but looks cool!

It's not so much that it's too high, it's that it's not wide enough. Putting two of these side-by-side and bridging the flight deck (as well as extending it over the bowsprit) between the two would make it much more effective. You don't typically want the aircraft to be landing in the direction of the tower, in case of emergency landings, wave offs, and general screw-ups meaning they can easily take out your entire command crew.

The artwork is very good, but it seems like it was made as a tribute to Halo-vessels rather than practicality.

I like the ship design, but there is one thing you should know. Modern aircraft carriers have the diagonal runway so that landing planes do not risk running into the other aircraft and blowing everything up.

Not bad, have you thought about adding a long-range railgun for artillery purposes?

A comment froma weapons type guy, your ship seems to have some limited AA capability, i realize you have drones, but you still have a certain amount of time that it takes for them to get up, and some stuff such as the PHALANX gatlings ( a more futuristic ersion of course) or some sea-sparrow missle launchers ( again something more futuristic, im just giving a modern example ) or the RAM-112 system

112, 116 same shit different pile :p, lol, yeah, i kind of didn't have any room, but i could have put some turrets on the mast and on top of the bridge, but other than that i can add some balconies. there are 2 turrets on each side already but they are kinda multipurpose AA and flank.

well i dunno if you like this style, i think it works, you could try hull "indentations" or "alcoves" whatever you want to call them ( im pretty sure you know what i mean, if not ill show ya a pic ) on the side with some AA turrets in them

Interesting design is interesting.
You know those deck guns you placed near the bow, two on each side? I've seen one of them up close in real life. Except it was a single barrel that was longer.
As for the armament, I think railguns are more in order than lining the sides with cannons, like an 18th century warship. And especially considering the type of ships you've come up with, I think precision tactical strikes will be even more important and broadsides attacks (Like the ones your side-mounted guns are seemingly prepared for) would be nonexistent.
Still, damn-cool ship! :D

I was thinking of side lined canons, or railguns for that matter, but i was thinking, since the ship is so tall it might tip over unless the guns are positioned lower. And i don't think we would go as far as railguns 50 years from, i mean think 50 years back, we still had a lot of things we have today. Weaponry evolves slowly but significantly. Idk, i'm not a psychic. If i make a destroyer, i'll be sure to include something like that, but this was supposed to be an aircraft carrier. Thanks for the feedback :D

I do like the ship in itself, and the story is one you could really create a whole suite of models off of, but i have to argue with your stats. 300kts is about 245 mph, and to get anywhere close to that speed, you're probably going to have to get your ship out of the water (hydro foils, jetfoils) or at least give it an uber-hydrodynamic hull. Yes, i know it has a nuclear reactor, but it just so happens that most of the current U.S. navy does too. Also, what effect are the 2x gale-force winds going to have on deck equipment? anybody or anything outside the ship would be blown away, and all those detailed goodies on the ship's hull would be destroyed. I don't have an issue with fast ships, but they have to be DESIGNED fast.

I knew some one would critique that! lol, yeah yeah, i over exaggerated, I just wanted to put down a number that seemed really fast but not too fast that it can out run a plane. I guess i went WAY too overboard, literally :p Anyway, i just was thinking that is 50 years, ships would be a lot faster. Good critique always makes my day, so thanks :D

Well it's a great concept - I'd like to see more models based off of this theme. Heck, I'm almost inspired to do a ship myself :-)

glad to hear that :), i was thinking of making the ships snow themed, because i came up with the story after i made the model, i'll think of something :D

lovin the non-halo model xD , this is pretty sick and i agree with canon, we could definatly start a theme of this "universe" in some models
